Herding, sweating, mood – welcome to celebrate the transformation
Come join us as a professional dancer and women from your own neighborhood tackle one of our last taboos: menopause. Mood swings, hot flushes, sweating and dry mucous membranes are no secret, so why are they treated as such? It’s time to embrace transition. In this entertaining and educational performance, the physical changes as well as the shame-filled feelings and silence are seen in detail.
Based on local women’s stories about menopause, Icelandic dancer and choreographer Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir creates a fun and warm portrayal of this mythical era – a tribute to the body and its aging.
Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir is an award-winning dancer who started performing in her living room at the age of four. For many years she worked at the Iceland Dance Company and toured the world. In her forties, she suffered an injury that forced her to rethink her relationship with her dance and body. With a master’s degree in Performance practice at the Iceland University of the Arts, she further developed her artistic practice to conduct research on the body’s aging, history and experience.
When the Bleeding Stops is a performance piece that takes its starting point from Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir’s personal experience of aging as a dancer. The work tours internationally and aims for nothing less than to change the narrative of menopause in Western society.
Do you want to join?
Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir, dancer and choreographer from Iceland, is looking for women from Skåne for her performance “When the Bleeding Stops”. In this work, women in transition are celebrated!
If you are a woman between the ages of 40 and 65, you could be the person she is looking for – no previous dance or stage experience required. You will have digital contact with Lovísa during the fall and explore your inner dancer from the comfort of your home. Communication takes place in English.
A physical workshop takes place (4 hours) a day or two before the performance (October 24) If you are interested in being part of “When The Bleeding Stops” and want more information, do not hesitate to contact ap@dansstationen.nu
