Alma Söderberg is known for her intricate interplay between movement and rhythm. A meeting between metrical thinking and emotional physicality, where one does not exclude the other. A kind of sonorous, rhythmically driven dance, suggestive and with a touch of humour.

In Infinétude Alma Söderberg draws nourishment from her first love of dance and eternal source of inspiration: Flamenco. A dance with a unique ability to penetrate and play with deep emotions. Joy, sadness, happiness, rebellion, and desperation are portrayed here, while the dancers move through constantly changing rhythmic patterns in a sensitive interplay with each other and the music.

In Infinétude joy is amplified in a syncopation – a shift of emphasis within a bar, where the emphasis is in an unexpected place. Grief is echoed in the voice, anger is embodied in a movement, and resistance is embedded in a melody. By stepping in and out of different rhythms, the group moves forward, together finding the ability to listen, act, dance, sing and think as one.

Alma Söderberg brings these experiences and approaches to her work with Infinétude – her largest self-produced work to date. Together with five phenomenal artists from the contemporary European dance scene, she explores music, dance, form and pattern making, in relation to emotions, healing and resistance – to both joy and sorrow.

Alma Söderberg
Choreographer

Alma Söderberg is a choreographer and performer working with music and dance. She uses her voice and body to play the space as if it were an instrument. Her ongoing research centres on how we listen when we look: the relationship between ear and eye. She has based her practice in several solo works but has also created duets, trios and group performances in collaboration with various artists, collectives and institutions. She is mainly trained in contemporary dance and flamenco at Matilde Coral Escuela de Danza in Seville, Amor de Dios in Madrid, Gotland’s dance programmes in Visby and SNDO in Amsterdam, among others. Since 2019, she also works as a curator on occasion, for example for the EarEye festival, which shares its focus with her practice.
