We’re going to tell you the biggest story of them all. Which is about you and me. It’s the story that we’re made of stardust. Atoms that were formed in exploding stars billions of years ago. That we are all the same. Some of Sweden’s most skilled mimes portray everything from amoebae, reptiles, fish, birds and monkeys. All the way through to modern man and into the future. A colorful, captivating, physical adventure through time and space, life and death.
Mimteatern
Choreography
Mimteatern has changed its name and was previously called Pantomimteatern.
Mimteatern is an independent touring theater group. It was founded in 1977 by the first class of students at Mimlinjen at the Swedish National School of Dance, including Bo W Lindström, who is still with the group. Initially, the aim of the company was to work across a broad spectrum of both children’s and adult theater, which it did until 1992. Nowadays, we mainly perform for children and young people. However, we still emphasize the term “all-age theater,” as many of our productions are also appreciated by adult audiences.
We start with movement—the body’s own language—and want to work to develop and consolidate mime as an art form in Sweden and around the world. This artistic form is entirely focused on performance without spoken dialogue, relying on the interplay between mime, movement, music, and set design. Sometimes we also use video, puppets, masks, and shadow play. The content of our plays is at least as important as the form. We choose current themes that the audience can easily identify with, all seen from a child’s perspective. We believe that no subject is too difficult; it all depends on how you present it. Our goal is to strengthen the audience’s self-esteem and stimulate their imagination. We have developed a form we call Mimdrama, and we work across disciplines with dancers, circus artists, and sometimes with elements of clowning or puppetry..
We perform for children, young people, and adults, especially those who lack developed verbal language skills. We perform for preschools and schools at various levels, including sign language schools, special needs schools, schools for new arrivals, etc., as well as family performances. We perform throughout Sweden and around the world.
Speaking is silver, miming is gold!
